Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival
The annual Guelph Contemporay Dance Festival seeks innovative and experimental works to be presented in the Mainstage, Site-Specific, Noon-Time, Off-Site and Youth Moves Series. Artists may apply to more than one series.
The Mainstage Series plays host to some of the most accomplished and innovative dance artists from across Canada. Eight short works, each under 20 minutes, will be chosen to be part of two distinct programs. Artists will perform twice in the 180-seat Co-operators' Hall at the River Run Centre. Honoraria, travel costs, per diems and accommodations will be provided. A minimum of five years of professional choreography experience is required.
The Site-Specific Series will feature 4 - 6 works, a maximum of 10 minutes in length, from professional dance artists. Artists must demonstrate an ability to create works that integrate the chosen site, Exhibition Park, into their work. Exhibition Park is a beautiful and large downtown community-friendly park with trees, open spaces, and a play centre, providing many potentially exciting locations for Site-Specific works. This family-oriented series attracts approximately 700 people. Honoraria will be provided.
The Youth Moves Series is open to all Southern Ontario dance companies with performers under the age of nineteen. Eight works, each under 10 minutes in length, will be chosen. Performances occur on the first week-end in June, on both Saturday and Sunday, in the 180-seat Co-operators Hall, River Run Centre.
The Noon-Time Series is open to emerging dance artists. These performances are created specifically for St. George's Square, the public area located in the heart of downtown Guelph. This free, outdoor event finds the artists interacting with a wide range of the community, from the lunchtime crowd of café patrons to those waiting for the buses that meet at the Square. Works should be under 10 minutes in length.
The Off-Site Series is where dance meets visual art. This intimate and aesthetically friendly location provides an off-the-beaten-path performance opportunity in a gallery setting. A minimum of five years of professional choreography experience is required. Honoraria and assistance with travel will be provided.
Deadline:
Applications must be postmarked by September 15th. All applications must include a current cv, a relevant video of proposed choreography, an application form and a membership fee of $25. Please address cheques to the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival.
